About CPC

Vision

Everyday people transforming Western North Carolina, creating just and inclusive communities. They believe they can make change, know how to make change, and take up the challenge to do it.

Mission

The Center for Participatory Change’s mission is to work in partnership with people across Western North Carolina as they recognize their own power, work together and transform their communities.

Guiding Principles

CPC is a multicultural, multilingual, multiracial organization that fosters participation and communication, honoring people of all languages, races and cultural backgrounds.

We believe that all people have the skills and knowledge to transform their communities.

We are committed to working with those who struggle to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, whether they are marginalized by race, ethnicity, gender, poverty, immigration status, or for other reasons.

We know from our work that social change occurs when marginalized communities define and meet their own needs.

We act out of the commitment to be the change we want to see in the world.

We are committed to being an active learning organization. We learn, reflect on our current realities, and document our work both internally and with our grassroots partners in an ongoing way.

Statement of Intent

The Center for Participatory Change intentionally works for racial justice and human dignity. Therefore, we promote social change that eliminates racism and pursues justice in:

  • our organization,
  • the organizations with which we partner,
  • the communities where we live, and
  • ourselves.
