About Hands Together
Hands Together / Manos Unidas
Handmade Greeting Cards"Hands Together or Manos Unidas is a group of women from around the world. We are from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, Bolivia and China. We have come together to learn from and support each other. Through economic development projects, we are building a better community for our community and ourselves. Your purchase of handmade cards such as this one helps bring our 'Hands Together.'"
--From the back of a Hands Together card
Hands Together is an international women's craft cooperative, based in Morganton, North Carolina. Their first group economic development project is making and selling handmade notecards.
Each card is decorated by hand by the members of Manos Unidas, so while some may have similar designs, each one is unique. On request, the group will make and send a packet of cards for specific occasions, such as thank-you cards, holiday cards, or birthday cards. Text on the front of the cards may be in Spanish, Aguacateco, Chinese calligraphy, or another of the women's native languages.
The insides of the cards are blank. The back of the card tells the story of Manos Unidas, and is signed by the woman who made it. Cards are sent with matching envelopes and are made using high-quality recycled paper.
Many designs reflect the art and culture of the women's native countries.
The back of this card explains that Tioxtu means 'thank you' in Aguacateco.
