Emma Family Resource Center

The Emma Family Resource Center was founded five years ago to provide family-centered services in the Buncombe County community of Emma. In recent months, the staff and volunteers have begun expanding their programs to include more community organizing and development goals.

A highly motivated group of residents has come together to serve as a volunteer advisory board for EFRC. This active group has organized grassroots fundraisers and a community festival.

Community projects include "Emma Bucks," a skills exchange program based on the Time Dollars model. Participants in the "Emma Bucks" program will be able to offer their time and skills--for instance, two hours of child care--and earn credits which can be exchanged for services offered by other community residents, like getting a ride to the grocery store.
